Small business owners are often stuck managing their own books, payroll, and taxes on top of everything else. Not because they want to, but because they haven't found someone they trust to take it over. It's one of the most common reasons businesses stall. The owners are capable people, but they're spending time on financial tasks outside their expertise when they should be focused on the work that drives revenue.
That's the problem EMG was built to solve.
We're a CPA-led accounting firm based in Riverview, serving businesses and individuals across the South Shore and greater Tampa Bay area. Our clients include contractors and skilled trades companies, medical and dental practices, real estate professionals, service businesses, nonprofits, and sole proprietors. Whether you have a team of fifty or you're running things on your own, we meet you where you are.
Our team comes from a background in large-scale financial management, overseeing operations that spanned dozens of countries and portfolios worth millions of dollars. We've taken that same discipline and applied it to the businesses that need it most. Not Fortune 500 companies, but the local businesses and independent operators that drive this community.
We handle bookkeeping, payroll, tax preparation, and sales tax, all built on a foundation of compliance. Staying compliant isn't just a checkbox. It's what keeps your business legally operational, protects you during audits, and gives you a clean financial picture to make decisions from. Every service we provide is structured around that principle.
We also go deeper when clients need it. Cash flow forecasting, budgeting, construction job costing, fractional CFO support. The point is to match the level of service to what your business actually needs right now, with room to grow.
Miguel Zavaleta, CPA
I spent over 20 years in accounting, tax, and financial management before starting EMG. My career has included roles as Controller, Chief Accounting Officer, VP of Finance, and CFO, spanning both nonprofit and for-profit organizations. Most recently, I served as VP of Finance for an international nonprofit in Washington, DC, where I oversaw accounting, budgeting, cash flow, internal controls, and financial reporting across 65 countries, managing portfolios worth millions. That kind of work doesn't leave room for guesswork. Every number has to be right and every report has to hold up under scrutiny.
What I kept seeing, whether in small nonprofits or small for-profit businesses, was the same pattern. Owners wearing too many hats. Handling their own books, filing their own taxes, trying to stay compliant without the background to know what they were missing. It's the single biggest reason small businesses can't move to the next level. Growth requires delegation. It means putting financial tasks in the hands of someone with the specialized knowledge, skills, and experience to handle them properly.
I started EMG to bring that level of support to the businesses and individuals who need it. I work hands-on with contractors, trades companies, medical and dental practices, real estate professionals, service businesses, sole proprietors, and nonprofits. I understand these industries because I've served them for years and I know the specific challenges they face, from job costing and cash flow timing to compliance and reporting. Compliance, in particular, is where everything starts. A business has to remain compliant to continue operating, and that foundation shapes every piece of work we do, from bookkeeping and payroll to tax preparation and financial reporting.
I hold a degree in Accounting and I'm a licensed CPA in both Florida and Virginia. I'm also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. If you're ready to hand off the financial side and focus on what you do best, book a call and let's talk about what EMG can do for you.
Natalya Burlakova
Natalya holds a degree in Accounting and runs our accounting operations, administrative processes, and client coordination. She makes sure nothing falls through the cracks. Records are accurate, communication is timely, and every client's experience is smooth from start to finish.
She works directly with small business owners to support day-to-day bookkeeping, organization, and operational follow-through. Her experience spans service-based and owner-operated businesses, including home services, real estate-related companies, and other closely held firms that need consistent recordkeeping and hands-on support.
The work she does behind the scenes is a big part of why our clients can count on things running the way they should. When the details are handled right, the rest of the business moves forward without unnecessary friction.
